The Heart Research Centre's mission is to help prevent cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases. It also aims to improve outcomes of acute cardiac events through research into the behavioural, psychological and social aspects of cardiovascular disease, particularly concerning cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention.

The Heart Research Centre implements its mission by:

  • Identifying and testing, through research, important factors impacting upon these aspects of cardiovascular disease
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating model programs
  • Conducting training programs for health professionals in cardiac rehabilitation and the prevention of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases
  • Influencing health policy and contributing to the development of health policies
  • Creating effective relationships, collaborations and partnerships with other groups and organisations to advance the Centre’s goals
