We will work hard to keep you informed and enthusiastic
about how your Workplace Giving donations are being put to work, and pledge

Workplace Giving
Benefits to Employees
For employees, workplace giving enables affordable
giving, through a transparent and trustworthy program. Employees are able to
make donations in an efficient and tax-effective manner, eliminating the need
to collect receipts or wait until the end of the year to claim a tax refund.
Employees receive an upfront tax deduction within their
weekly, fortnightly or monthly salary.
Giving from your pre-tax income costs you less, but
Inspire receives the full benefit of your donation. A $20 pre-tax donation
costs an employee only $13.50 after the automatic tax deduction, but the Heart
Research Centre receives the full $20.00 (assuming the employee is on the
marginal tax rate of 32.5%).
Once established, there is little maintenance for
employees.
Benefits to Employers
For employers, workplace giving contributes to an overall
feeling of corporate social responsibility. This in turn enhances staff loyalty
and morale and the public perception that this company is a good place to work.
Workplace giving also provides the company staff with engagement in supporting
community initiatives.
Once established, there is little maintenance or cost
incurred for the participating business.
As a form of donating, it's a timely and cost-effective
thing for both employer and the Heart Research Centre.
Raises corporate profile and boosts staff morale.
How is it implemented?
The program can be implemented directly with the Heart
Research Centre or with the help of the Australian Charities Fund or the
Charities Aid Foundation.
1. Employer selects a peer champion who is the main
contact with the Heart Research Centre and communicates the benefits of the
program and information about Inspire to their colleagues.
2. Employees are asked to commit to making regular
donations by way of payroll deduction.
3. Employees get an immediate and guaranteed reduction in
tax.
4. Employers may choose to match donations by their
staff, either as a percentage of the donations raised by their employees, or
matching dollar for dollar. When an organisation matches its employees'
contributions, employees know their charitable donations go further and that
their commitment to community development is a value shared by their employer.
5. Payroll officer collates all of the employee's
donations each month and forwards the total funds to the Heart Research Centre
by cheque or bank transfer.
6. Peer champion provides ongoing communication about the
program to staff via internal promotions, staff meetings, newsletters, intranet
postings etc.
7. Employees can opt to receive regular newsletters and
information from the Heart Research Centre about the impact of their support.
If your employer hasn't got a workplace giving scheme in
place please contact us and we will do our best to support you to implement a
scheme.
Two agencies that support employers to implement
workplace giving schemes are:
